Maj Ryan Elzie, USMC

Executive Officer and Associate Professor of Naval Science

Major Elzie received his commission with the Naval Reserve Officers Training
Corps from the University of Florida in May of 2013. While awaiting orders to
The Basic School he worked for 6 months as a roustabout at the Bakken oil fields
of North Dakota. Following The Basic School, he graduated Infantry Officer's
Course in April 2015.


Major Elzie was assigned to 3D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st
Marine Division, Marine Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms,
California. In July 2015, he graduated from Light Armored Reconnaissance
Leaders Course, Camp Pendleton, California. He served as Platoon Commander
through December 2016 and deployed to PACOM AO in support of the Unit
Deployment Program 16.1. Major Elzie was then assigned as Company Executive
Officer and Fire Support Team Leader from January 2017 through January 2018 and again deployed to the
PACOM AO in support of the Forward Deployed Force 17.2, April to October 2017.


Following his assignment at 3D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Major Elzie reported to Marine
Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. He served as Series Commander for Company K, 3rd Recruit Training
Battalion, until he took command of the Special Training Company, Support Battalion, Recruit Training
Regiment in August 2019. In July 2020, Major Elzie took command of Headquarters and Support Company,
Weapons and Field Training Battalion. Prior to his departure, Major Elzie graduated Expeditionary Warfare
School, Distance Education Program, and was selected for resident career-level school. Major Elzie
relinquished command in June 2021, and subsequently arrived to Fort Benning, GA for Maneuver Captains
Career Course 21-05. In January 2022, Major Elzie graduated on commandant's honor roll.


Major Elzie was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines aboard Camp Pendleton, CA. In May 2022, Major
Elzie took command of Company A. In October, Major Elzie graduated from Weapons and Tactics Instructor
Course 1-22. In March 2023, Major Elzie relinquished command of Company A, and subsequently assumed
command of Weapons Company and assignment as the Battalion’s Fire Support Coordinator. 1st Battalion, 5th
Marines composited as the Battalion Landing Team for the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit in June of 2023.
After receipt of orders in January 2024, Major Elzie relinquished command of Weapons Company and was
transferred to the 15th MEU S-3 where he deployed as an exercise planner to support two multi-national joint
major exercises; Cobra Gold 2024 in Thailand and Tiger Triumph 2024 in India.


In May 2024, Major Elzie reported to the Naval ROTC Houston Consortium and assumed his duties as the
Executive Officer and Associate Professor of Naval Science. He is married to the former Alixandria Reinhard
and they have three children; Atticus Colt (4), Micah Ford (2), and Norah Jane (<1).
