LT Emily Garrett

Assistant Professor of Naval Science and Nuclear Programs Officer

LT Garrett is originally from Warrenton, VA. She commissioned as a Nuclear Surface Warfare Officer in May 2016 from the Naval ROTC program at Virginia Tech. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering and minors in Leadership and Mathematics.

LT Garrett served her first tour on board USS O’KANE (DDG 77), in Pearl Harbor, HI. She reported to O’KANE in August 2016, where she served as the Strike Officer, leading the Tomahawk Strike Team and Combat Missile division. She deployed in Fall 2017 for a Western Pacific deployment performing Defense of the Homeland. LT Garrett detached from O’KANE in April 2018.

She reported to Nuclear Power School in Charleston, SC, where she subsequently completed the nuclear training pipeline at Nuclear Power Training Unit Charleston.

Upon completion of the pipeline in 2019, she reported to USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER in Norfolk, VA, where she served as a Reactor Mechanical Division Officer. IKE deployed twice to Fifth Fleet from January 2020 to July 2021 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, for which she earned a Navy Unit Commendation Medal. Between deployments, LT Garrett qualified as a Nuclear Engineering Officer. Following her qualification, she served as the Assistant Reactor Mechanical Assistant, preparing Reactor Mechanical Division to transition to Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where she detached from the ship in October 2021 to transition to Houston, TX.

Her personal decorations include the Naval Achievement Medal with one gold star, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, among other unit and personal awards.
